Usher In The New Year of the Pig With Pork Yusheng From The Butcher’s Kitchen

In a creative festive twist to the traditional fish-based Yu Sheng, The Butcher’s Kitchen has launched its 3 Treasures Porky Yu Sheng ($38.80), as well as a specially curated selection of other pork-based delights to whet your tastebuds this New Year of the Pig!

Featuring a base of crisp, rainbow-hued, julienned vegetables adorably arranged in the form of a pig, the 3 Treasures Porky Yusheng takes the quintessential CNY staple up a notch by incorporating a mouthwatering trio of pork cuts — golden roast pork belly, crispy pork lard and succulent char siew into the medley.

Topped off with an appetizingly tangy-sweet yusheng dressing and the restaurant’s freshly-made chips, this dish can comfortably feed up to 10 people and is a delectably auspicious way to kick-start the Pig’s Year with.

The ingredients are thoroughly mixed with the resounding chants of Lohei — the char siew’s red and the golden hue of the pork lard evoking luck and prosperity in the New Year; giving rise to a crunchy, fragrant medley of vegetables, luscious meats and crisp, crackling roasted pork skin & lard all coated in a refreshingly tangy plum yusheng dressing.

The fattiness of the roasts are offset by the vegetables as well as the appetizing dressing, creating a harmonious, more-ish symphony of sweet & savoury to start your meal with.

Other mains from the restaurant’s newly-launched pork-based menu include Char Siew Pasta with Truffle ($18.00), comprising thin capellini-style noodles tossed in a homemade truffle-infused char siew sauce and topped off with succulent pork char siew; and the Mala Pasta with Roasted Pork Belly ($18.80) is an exhilarating fusion of East meets West — featuring perfectly cooked, al-dente pasta noodles coated in a piquant blend of Mala spices with fresh cabbage and roasted pork belly adorning it.

The star of the night, however, was the Hebi Hiam Pizza ($18.80); which stole the thunder with its thin crispy crust, generous melting cheese and fragrant topping of spicy sambal shrimp & fried pork lard marinated in prawn chilli. A killer more-ish combination, this dish is definitely a crowd-pleaser, especially appealing to those who are fans of spices.

To end off your New Year’s meal with, take home a bottle of The Butcher’s Kitchen‘s lovingly hand-made Original Fresh Chips ($10.80), which come in Salted Egg ($12.80), and Mala ($12.80) flavours as well.

These all-natural bottles of goodness are freshly-fried daily and less greasy than your regular chips, making for a highly-addictive, healthier snack. Artfully packaged in a glass bottle, they make wonderful take-home gifts for you and your loved ones to savour over the course of this Lunar New Year.
